I have installed and activated both the component and the plugin, but ReDJ won't work (gives me a standard 404 error). I think I've missed a step in setup process, and I believe it has to do with the htaccess file. Can you help?

ReDJ is able to catch all Joomla error 404 pages without any modification to .htaccess. If you want to catch all error 404 pages, you must add an entry at the end of Joomla's .htaccess file. Entry is something like:

ErrorDocument 404 /

But it really depends on your installation, so exact string you can find in ReDJ component when you edit an item (look on the istructions on the right side).

If you still got problem, send me the item you are testing, and I'll check for syntax.

I'm trying to test the redirect from www.cfabstract.com/welcome to a specialized landing page (www.cfabstract.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=58). It appears to be generating a system level (GoDaddy) 404 page. I have a custom 404 error page created in my Joomla templates directory. I've attached a png of the URLs I'my trying to use.

The error page is a custom one and is not provided by Joomla. So, for this kind of redirect to work, you need to configure your Joomla's .htaccess file. In this way you pass all the error pages to Joomla home, and ReDJ can do the work.

ReDJ catch the error and replace with a redirect. As I sayed, you must add an entry at the end of Joomla's .htaccess file. Entry is something like:
