I see the fields in the table for ReDJ and they include:

checked_out checked_out_time

I notice that no values are entered into these when a new entry is created. What is the purpose of those fields?

I did notice that I could simply add an entry to this table via PHPMyAdmin and all the redirection work was done automatically. This is nice. I am thinking of ways to allow registered members who filled our a specific form to create their own redirect to the page they made.

These fields are the standard Joomla's way to manage lock of items when they are edited by someone.

You can check by yourself looking to other standard Joomla's tables.
